Arma Partners expands Media & Internet practice with the appointment of Simon Carmichael
Arma Partners, a leading independent Communications, Media and Technology focused M&A advisory firm, today announces the expansion of its Internet and Digital Media advisory capabilities with the appointment of Simon Carmichael as a Partner. Simon will work alongside Eric Lawson-Smith and the team, who have successfully built Arma’s presence in this sector over the past seven years. He will be based in Arma’s London office and begins his role immediately.
Simon has nearly 20 years of investment banking experience, with a strong focus on advising high-growth consumer Internet businesses on both M&A and capital raisings. Prior to joining Arma Partners, Simon was a Managing Director at Torch Partners, where for over seven years he advised many of Europe’s leading venture-backed Internet companies, including Just-Eat, Secret Escapes, notonthehighstreet.com, DaWanda, Mendeley, Unruly Media and Blippar, on strategic M&A and financings.
Simon started his career at Hambrecht & Quist and later was a member of the CSFB Technology Group. He holds a M.Eng. in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Oxford.
Paul Guély, Founder and Managing Partner at Arma Partners, commented: “Simon’s appointment will give Arma Partners further strength and breadth in this rapidly growing sector. Arma has advised on a large number of high-profile Internet and Media deals, successfully completing transactions that have involved AOL, Markit, Rakuten, TUI and Thomson Reuters among others. Simon’s experience in advising high-growth businesses on both M&A and growth capital investments will add an important new dimension to our Media & Internet team’s firepower.”
Eric Lawson-Smith, Partner at Arma Partners, added: “Simon is a very highly regarded and experienced advisor and I’m looking forward to working with him closely as we grow our Internet and Digital Media practice. Simon’s established relationships with many of the high-growth internet businesses set to achieve market leadership in the coming years speak to his sector expertise and will help to expand the range of cutting-edge start-ups and established firms with which Arma works.”
Simon Carmichael commented: “By joining Arma I’m becoming part of an established firm which over the past 13 years has built a reputation for excellence not only here in Europe, but also in the US and, increasingly, Asia. With the continued rapid evolution of the Media & Internet sector resulting in increasing levels of M&A activity, I’m excited about the range of new opportunities my partner Eric Lawson-Smith and I will be able to deliver to our clients as part of the Arma team.”
